Rhododendrons

 BLETILLA - HYACINTHIANA -
Is a hardy ground orchid of the easiest cultivation. We grow our plants under our magnolias in semi shade. The early summer flowers are small (2”) white orchids with several flowers on each stem. Our plants have thrived through. -12° F.

 RHODODENDRON - - ALISON JOHNSTONE
Has light pinkish flowers that will turn flesh colored as they age. Sounds strange, but with the blue foliage this is a pretty flowering shrub.

 RHODODENDRON - - BAMBI X PROTEOIDES
An unbelievable foliage plant. The glossy deep green leaves are lovely year round. But in late spring the new growth as glorious rusty. Our largest (15 years old) is 12”x18”.

 RHODODENDRON - - BRUCE BRECHTBILL
Discovered by Mark Bloom when he worked at Bruce Brechtbill’s nursery, Eugene in the 1960’s. Mark saw a peach-pink truss on a branch of R. ’Unique’ and propagated it. The plant’s green, oval foliage makes a pretty backdrop for the rich peach-pink flowers.

 RHODODENDRON - - CARMEN
A R. repens hybrid that will have deep red flowers on a plant 6-8” tall and 24” wide.

 RHODODENDRON - - CARMEN X YAKUSHIMANUM
Our plant is 12” x 12’’ in full sun. The foliage is convex like R. yakushimanum and has plastered tan indumentum. The flowers are mid red bells similar to R ‘Carmen’.

 RHODODENDRON - - COASTAL SPICE
One of the late Jim Gerdeman's hybrids. This hybrid has very sweetly scented flowers that are large white with pink and yellow markings.

 RHODODENDRON - - CORNELL PINK
One of the earliest blooming shrubs (February). This deciduous azalea has rich pink flowers by the hundreds. Lovely with Corylopsis pauciflora and pulmonaria.

 RHODODENDRON - - EARL'S GOLD
Named by Earl Sommerville. This golden yellow native azalea is from the southeast U.S. and is quite striking in May. We are trying to get more plants of our southern native azaleas for their beauty and summer flowering

 RHODODENDRON - - ELEPHANT EAR
Named by Thompson’s Nursery, Waldport, OR. This hybrid has pink flowers. But, the main reason for growing are the large, deep green oval leaves. This foliage makes an attractive rounded shrub.

 RHODODENDRON - - ELIZABETH (RED FOLIAGE)
This hybrid has been around the northwest for a long time. The flowers are red in a lax truss in May. The new foliage is dark purple during early summer. Our 10 year old plant is 2 x 2’.

 RHODODENDRON - - ELSIE FRYE
One of our oldest maddeni hybrids. We have had R.’Elsie Frye’ since the mid 60’s. We grow our old plants in large containers in the shade house (plastic cover in winter and some heat to keep to 15-18° F, The large white and pink flowers scented of nutmeg. Superb.

 RHODODENDRON - - EVERRED
A new rhododendron hybrid. The deep red purple new growth is incredible. The leaves eventually turn deep purple. The indumentum is deep burgundy year round. The red bell like flowers are a pretty addition.

 RHODODENDRON - - FLETCHERIANUM’
Has soft yellow flowers in March. The hairy foliage comes from the maddenii series of rhododendrons. This Tibetian species is probably one of the hardiest of the maddenii series.

 RHODODENDRON - - FRAGRANTISSIMUM
Is a hybrid with large white flowers in April. The truss will have only 3 or 4 flowers, but they are large and have a superb nutmeg scent. R. 'Fragrantissimum' isn't hardy here, but will do very well in a container to move inside during cold weather.

 RHODODENDRON - - FROST HEXE
A lapponum series rhododendron that has small purple daphne like flowers. Plant will get 12-18” and is irregular and spreading.

 RHODODENDRON - - GLOBIGERUM
A small (2 x 2’) slow growing rhododendron with the most beautiful foliage. The deep, glossy green leaves have thick indumentums all year. Needs semi-shade and good drainage.

 RHODODENDRON - - GOLFER
One of our favorite rhododendrons. R. ‘Golfer’ is a R. pseudochrysanthum hybrid with gorgeous tomentum all over the leaves in summer. Our 30+ year old is 3’x3’ and grows in filtered shade. The apple blossom flowers appear in April. Superb!

 RHODODENDRON - - HOCKISON
A hybrid rhododendron with upright growth to 6’. The narrow leaves are dark greenish purple especially in winter. The plant is covered with small white flowers by the thousands. Rarely offered. These are small plants but well rooted.

 RHODODENDRON - - KAZAN DWARF
A very small 6” x 6” plant after many years. The dark green small leaves are a pretty background to the peachy flowers.

Is somewhat like R. ‘Teddy Bear’ but has lighter indumentums year round. This is a truly a great foliage plant.

Has white flowers on this maddeni hybrid that are sweetly fragrant. Hardy to 18-20° F.

 RHODODENDRON - - MERGERATUM
A dwarf to 12” x 12” with hairy deep green small foliage. This small plant will have pretty yellow flowers in late March. Needs good drainage.

 RHODODENDRON - - ODEE WRIGHT
Came from our late propagator Art Wright many years ago. The rhododendron has deep dark green glossy foliage on a 6-8’ shrub. In April to May the large trusses are lovely golden yellow.

One of the Cox hybrid azaleas from Scotland. The flowers are snow white by the hundreds. The plant will literally be covered with the flowers.
